Key Responsibilities


The Head of New Product Development is an exciting and important leadership role with the purpose of expanding our addressable market to drive significant value for both our customers and SATS. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role is responsible for developing new products and services in Gateway Services and Cargo Management for airline, logistics and e-Commerce customers.


The successful candidate will own the New Product Development process including ideation, qualification, piloting, maturing and launching of new products and services. They will blend strong prior experience in new product development and understanding of customer needs to drive innovative new products that leverage our assets and technology to drive differentiation and value. This role requires a clear vision for our product portfolio, strong program-building skills, and the ability to foster collaboration with customers, colleagues as well as potential partners.


Strategic & Program Leadership

  • Lead the New Product Development function for ground handling (above-wing and below-wing) and cargo handling (on and off-airport)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and launch a continuous stream of new products and services that set us apart and deliver value
  • Build, develop and maintain a new product development framework and governance system to increase success rate and efficiency


Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor and develop a small team of New Product Development colleagues into a high performing team
  • Foster a culture of ownership, performance and continuous improvement within the team


Ideation

  • Leverage customer, competitor and industry insights as well as customer and colleague crowd sourcing to build a pool of ideas for development of new products and services
  • Ensure that ideas are registered in a database with the relevant minimum data points


Qualification

  • Leverage technology and other resources to perform a light touch qualification of all relevant ideas, including parameters such as strategic fit, estimated market size, growth and margins, as well as ability to execute and win


Prioritisation

  • Review options, refine qualification and research opportunities to put forward recommendedations for investments in tests and piloting


Proof of Concept/Piloting

  • Identify and execute quick and low-cost options for testing and piloting new ideas
  • Establish relevant KPIs to evaluate pilots and proofs of concept
  • Iterate on ideas, test and pilots to either fail fast or achieve a successful result


Maturing & Scaling

  • For successful pilots/ proofs of concept, develop plan for maturing and scaling the idea to be viable for launch and success in the target market
  • Develop financial business cases for the development work of maturing and scaling in accordance with the plan
  • For approved business cases, execute on the plan and develop viable products and services ready for launch. This includes maturing the value proposition, processes and setup for delivery of the product, tech development, go-to-market plans, pricing strategy, sales collateral, training, etc.


Launch & Handover

  • Responsible for product launch and (after stabilisation) handover to the product management team

 

Key Requirements

 

  • With minimum 10 years of progressive experience in at least four of the following disciplines:

    • New Product Development
    • Product Management

    • Process Design
    • IT system development
    • Air cargo Handling
    • Air ground handling
    • Warehousing & Distribution
    • Sales / Sales Management
    • Program Management

  • Cultural agility and ability to work in a matrix/global organisation
  • Ongoing commitment to training and professional development (through conferences, courses, certifications etc.) to stay current with industry best practices
  • Strong knowledge of international supply chains  
  • Ability to translate customer needs and pains into new services and solutions
  • Knowledge of agile development principles
