Key Responsibilities

The strategy department is a SATS internal corporate function that reports directly to the PCEO.  Its purpose is three-fold:

  1. to prepare strategic perspectives or recommendations for Board and GMB level decisions,
  2. to work with functional and commercial leaders on strategy and business development projects, including organic and non-organic activities, and

The Manager is responsible for overall delivery of projects, management and development of the strategy team members, and stakeholder engagement.  S/he will be assigned to work on teams with supervision from the Director, frequently with additional input from senior functional or commercial colleagues.  The manager’s task is to combine 4 types of leadership across their project work:  thought, people, project, and client.

  • Thought leadership: finding the right business answer and communicating that in clear and compelling language to gain buy in.
  • People leadership: the right tasks and motivating the individuals on the team to deliver and grow.
  • Project leadership: managing the scope of the project as perspectives invariably develop and change
  • Client leadership: ensuring that colleagues – usually internal colleagues but occasionally external – remain confident and committed throughout the project and beyond.

Managers will also work with directors and SATS leaders to shape the project portfolio, including working beyond the strategy team after projects to track implementation and bring lessons to future projects.  In addition to project related responsibilities, managers will partner with directors to assess analysts and associates and assist with coaching and training.
