Key Responsibilities
This role serves as the principal authority for the connectivity layer of the enterprise – everything that moves data between locations, users, and services, including devices connecting to these networks. This role sets the long-term vision, architecture and investment roadmap for global connectivity ensuring the network estate enables business growth, digital transformation, security and operational excellence.
Strategic Leadership & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Own the Global Network and Communications strategy, aligned to SATS business objectives
- Establish a three-year strategic roadmap covering connectivity, network architecture, cloud integration, telecommunications and collaboration platforms
- Act as the authoritative voice on network and communications strategy, investment priorities, and risk mitigation
- Define standards and reference designs with lifecycle and exception handling through Global Enterprise Architecture and the Architecture Review Board
- Establish operational integration with Global Support and the regional operations teams
Network & Connectivity
- Govern global routing and name services, cloud interconnects, site connectivity, SD-WAN, network segmentation, QoS, and private connectivity to cloud platforms
- Lead simplification initiatives including SD-WAN/SASE, DNS/DHCP/IPAM, and ZTNA
- Deliver global network and connectivity designs with site patterns, interconnect maps, and SD-WAN policies
- Ensure reliable and performant connectivity for Azure, M365, and hybrid workloads across all regions
- Define network segmentation models and connectivity standards for airport, warehouse, and corporate environments
Infrastructure Services
- Provide foundational services for compute, storage, directory, and secure access in data centres and edge locations
- Deliver reference designs for core infrastructure services and secure access where relevant
- Support the consolidation and modernisation of on-premises infrastructure
Industrial & Warehouse Connectivity
- Own design and standards for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and elevating transfer vehicle (ETVs), etc.
- Establish and govern industrial wireless, private cellular, and low-power sensor networks
- Deliver industrial connectivity standards for automated vehicles, sensors, and edge gateways with approved supplier options
- Partner with Edge Gateway Engineers on protocol translation and secure backhaul for OT/IoT devices
Endpoint Management
- Own standards and platform services for device lifecycle management, unified endpoint security (Defender for Endpoint), modern device management (Intune/MDM), and endpoint compliance
- Establish and govern device configuration baselines across physical and virtual endpoints
- Support the global modernization of device provisioning via Intune and Autopilot, enabling zero-touch deployment and cloud-first management
Observability & Recovery
- Establish health telemetry and alert policy for network and core services, with capacity and performance management
- Own recovery objectives, runbooks, and exercises for network and core services
- Deliver dashboards with trend analysis, risks, and recommendations on a regular cadence
- Drive risk-based approvals and pre-deployment checks for high-impact infrastructure and industrial connectivity changes
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or related technical discipline required
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Technology Management, or related field strongly preferred
- Relevant professional certifications highly valued: CCIE/CCNP, Azure Network Engineer Associate, SD-WAN vendor certifications, ITIL Expert
- 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience with minimum 7 years in senior network engineering, infrastructure, or telecommunications roles
- Network Transformation: Substantial experience leading large-scale network modernisation initiatives, including SD-WAN/SASE rollouts, ZTNA implementations, and hybrid cloud connectivity
- Industrial & OT Connectivity: Demonstrated experience designing and managing connectivity for operational technology environments, including warehouse automation, IoT sensor networks, and industrial wireless systems
- Endpoint Management: Proven track record implementing enterprise-scale modern device management solutions including Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, and unified endpoint security platforms
- Global Operations: Proven track record managing geographically distributed teams across multiple time zones and cultural contexts, with specific experience operating in EMEA, APAC, and The Americas
- Aviation, transportation, logistics, or field operations sector experience preferred with understanding of airside operations, warehouse environments, and 24/7/365 operational requirements
- Network Architecture: Expert-level knowledge of enterprise networking including global WAN/LAN design, SD-WAN, SASE, network segmentation, quality of service, private cloud connectivity, and DNS/DHCP/IPAM management
- Industrial Connectivity: Deep understanding of industrial wireless standards (Wi-Fi 6/6E, private 5G/LTE), AGV/ETV control networks, sensor protocols, edge computing, and protocol translation for OT/IoT environments
- Endpoint & Device Management: Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, Defender for Endpoint, MDM/MAM frameworks, and device compliance policies for diverse device fleets
- Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure: Solid understanding of Azure networking services, ExpressRoute/private peering, hybrid cloud architectures, and the integration of on-premises and cloud infrastructure
- Security & Zero Trust: Strong foundation in zero-trust network architecture, network access control, microsegmentation, and security compliance for regulated environments
- Observability & Resilience: Working knowledge of infrastructure monitoring and observability tools, capacity planning, disaster recovery architecture, and SRE practices as they relate to network and core infrastructure reliability
